Java is an open source, general-purpose programming language intended to let application developers write once and run anywhere. Since its’ inception on May 25th, 1995, Java has been a foundational component to many of the worlds applications and has a-mast a niche but diehard fanbase of developers. In 2009 Oracle acquired Sun Microsystems, the original proprietor of Java language, causing a rift between developer audience not interested in stronger corporate over site.
My team and I were brought in to develop a creative concept that would promote the 25th Anniversary, by focusing on trust, innovation, and predictability, while building a positive brand perception of Oracle as the stewards of Java. The concept titled Moved By Java envisions the advent of Java as the starting point for an explosion of creative innovation that set the world spinning forward—as it continues to today. This concept visually fuses together the newly released Oracle Redwood Brand while remaining true and authentic to Java’s fanbase by including the niche and beloved Java mascot, Duke. This campaign helps Oracle connect and build trust with generations of developers and enterprise IT professionals who’d built careers on Java—before and after the acquisition.
